Scheduling Your Games

Creating a schedule for your division is a three-step process:

Decide how many teams you will have. To do this, divide total enrollment by the number of players recommended for the age division (generally, the number of kids who will play at any one time plus

Create the match-ups, trying to minimize repeat matches until every team has played every other team (one cycle). Depending on the number of teams you have and the number of games we will be playing, you may go through more than one cycle. You are encouraged to treat fall and spring as a single season for this purpose. So, for example, if we are playing eight games in fall and eight games in spring, you will prepare match-ups for a 16 game season.

Creating match-ups is more difficult than it sounds if you are doing it from scratch. But you don’t have to do it from scratch! Use our match-up makers to help (see discussion at right). You can be done with your match-ups in less than five minutes.

Assign match-ups to specific fields and times. Unfortunately, we can’t help you with that. The reality in RPAYSO is that some coaches coach in more than one division. Times have to be negotiated between division managers. But the match-ups (fortunately) never have to be touched once you set them up. Only times and field assignments are up for grabs.

How to Use the Match-Up Makers

We have provided grids (below) for 6, 8, 10 and 12 team divisions.

The grids show match-ups for one cycle of games—that is the number of games required for each team to play every other team. After one cycle is complete, the cycle is simply repeated until the season is filled out.

Once you have the match-ups, assign fields and times. You can swap times for any pair of match-ups on a given week. That is, you can move games up and down on the grid. (Don’t move match-ups from one week to the other, however. It only works moving them up and down, not left and right.)
